From ConflictWiki
This help page is your guide to creating standardized entries in ConflictWiki.
If you came here because you were about to create an entry, use your browser's BACK button to return to the edit and go about your business.
To create an item into ConflictWiki:
- To upload a file, which may be done AFTER you create the article reference:
IMPORTANT: if the file is larger than a few megabytes, contact admin@conflictwiki.org to arrange for an FTP account or for the admin to upload the file.
- File uploads are generally PDFs, in fact, all articles should be PDF. Any HTML-based article should be converted to PDF to local storage (conditioned on copyright) as well as word processor documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for ease of reading by all.
- Make sure the file isn't already online by searching for or searching the uploaded files. Click Upload File from the toolbox on the left-hand side of your screen. This only shows files uploaded through this process, however, and not directly through FTP.
- Browse to the file to upload and create a sensible destination name. The recommended format for the file name is FIRST_LAST_YEAR_TITLE. By using this, future downloads of the article will clearly show the author's name, the year the document was published and its title. Please use underscores ("_") in lieu of spaces. Failure to follow this won't result in a system meltdown.
- (Optional) Enter a brief summary of the document. Please limit this to a sentance or three.
- After upload, get the full URL by moving your mouse of the filename that appears after upload and copying it to the clipboard. The full URL should look like http://conflictwiki.org/images/c/c7/Demo.pdf.
- To create the file reference itself
- Search the system for the file title. You probably didn't find it and that's why you're reading this. Click Create New Page.
- Copy the following text into your document and replace the values to the right of the equals with the appropriate, or blank, values.
